We’re proud to have partnered with three important organisations in Cape Town that are doing incredible work to give equal opportunities to those in our communities who need it most.
Uthando (Love) South Africa has created an award-winning model of responsible that acts as a unique link between tourism and community development projects. Happy Feet Youth Project is an NGO that works with the children of Langa to keep them off the streets through traditional gumboots dancing and children-led choreography. And Masicorp works for the people of Masiphumelele township, where we estimate more than 40,000 people live disadvantaged and poor by the legacy of apartheid.
Empowering communities through travel
Masicorp works for a community of close to 40,000 people living in the township of Masiphumelele, near Cape Town in South Africa. The community has been severely disadvantaged by the harsh historical legacy of apartheid and the slow pace of reform since apartheid ended in 1994.
Since Masicorp was founded in 1999, we have worked with both children and adults in Masiphumelele to provide expanded educational opportunities and skills development initiatives. Our approach has always been to first ask the community where and how they need support — never to arrive with pre-conceived assumptions. From this approach, we know residents want a hand up not a handout and all agree that education is the route out of poverty.
Our vision is to ensure that all residents have access to quality education, training, advice, and support. To do this, we work closely with the people of Masiphumelele and with key partners, including community leaders and other non-profits. Together we have built a constructive framework that helps residents progress out of poverty towards a sustainable livelihood through many programmes ranging from early childhood development (ECD) through to primary school and high school, as well as life and professional skills training for young people and adults.
Masicorp has no religious or political affiliations and is a tax-exempt NGO / charity registered and established in South Africa, the USA and the UK. Our headquarters are on the Chasmay Road Campus near Masiphumelele.
Sentinel Ocean Alliance provides a safe space to create and implement multi-faceted youth development programmes and environmental initiatives that address real challenges facing the youth of previously disadvantaged coastal communities. It supports and enables future responsible leaders to become ocean activists and make meaningful contributions to South African society.
Happy Feet Youth Project is a NPO founded in 2007 by Siviwe Mbinda in an effort to provide a safe after school environment for the children of his community. Through Siviwe’s work as a tourist guide in Langa, he saw an opportunity to further develop the mentor relationship he had with a small group of children. He paired responsible tourism and gumboots dance together as a catalyst to enable psychosocial and concrete benefits for the children.
Siviwe Mbinda established a program which empowers the children through gumboots and traditional dance to be confident and disciplined in achieving their goals both on and off the stage. The participants are required to balance their school work, participation in the Happy Feet activities, as well as how they carry themselves within the community. Siviwe Mbinda is being assisted by his near and dear ones to help him run the program.
The program includes over 100 boys and girls ages 3-22. Through dedication and hard work Happy Feet has performed at conferences, traditional ceremonies, hotels, universities, dance competitions, museums, and in parliament. The funding Happy Feet receives goes towards uniforms, traditional instruments, nutritious meals made in our very own soup kitchen, school fees and material support, and also Happy Feet outings and functions.
Uthando is a unique model of traveling philanthropy underpinned by the values of responsible tourism. Our Philanthropic Educational Excursions and experiences successfully link the local and international South Africa-focused traveling agencies to a broad range of innovative, inspiring, and well-managed community development projects.
We feel it is our purpose at Saffa Tours to use our unique position in the travel industry to give back to the people and communities that need it most. It’s only by working together that we will be able to make meaningful change and create the harmonious and prosperous society we aspire to.
Our travellers contribute to this change by choosing us and are able to learn more about these projects when they visit us in Cape Town - projects that are very dear to our heart and would love to share with you.
On our trip, Josh and Saffa Tours put together an amazing itinerary, based on what we were into, and they provided us with an absolutely incredible trip. My wife and I love to travel, and have worked with many groups such as Saffa Tours; this trip was, by far, our favorite tour, and Saffa was the best guide group we’ve ever used.

We cannot thank Saffa Tours enough for making our precious time in the Cape the best it could be. I cannot recommend Josh and his company Saffa Tours enough, as they made our time in South Africa in the Cape absolutely amazing and we were looking forward to the holiday because of the great preparation.

Absolutely brilliant trip to Cape Town and around the Western Cape with Josh and the Saffa team. Perfectly and thoughtfully organised, full of insight and fun. Could not recommend more!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. Well worth the cost visiting in the Cape area where there are so many things to do. Lightyears ahead of what a larger tour group would be able to put together. From small details to adjusting the daily itinerary on the fly.

Never have I encountered such organization, such fire for exploration - to show and to teach, and such willingness to adapt the bespoke tours and plans offered at any moment. We felt understood, we felt appreciated, and we felt that our best interests were always put first.

Amazing tour company. Josh helped plan our itinerary around the activities we wanted to do. Due to weather conditions a couple of the activities were cancelled but there were alternatives ready straight away. Rich was our guide and he was a joy to be around. Highly recommend!
